Give Your Vacuum a Tune up

Give Your Vacuum a Tune-Up
The best way to keep your carpet looking its best in between professional cleanings is to vacuum it regularly. For the average home, that means at
least once a week.
To make sure your vacuum is doing its job properly, take some time to give it a little tuneup.
1. Clean the brush. You’ll need a screwdriver and a good pair of scissors. Unscrew the protective panel from the bottom of the vacuum cleaner to get full access to the brush. Use your scissors to cut away hair, string, and other long fibers that have gotten
wound around it. If your brush is in bad shape, order a replacement (which is much cheaper than ordering a new vacuum).
2. Change or clean the filters. If your vacuum cleaner’s filters are clogged, it won’t be able to suck up the dirt in your home. Even worse, dirty filters cause dirty air to redistribute throughout your home, causing allergy and asthma problems. If your vacuum uses a bag to collect dust and dirt, change it when it is 3/4 full.
3. Inspect the power cord. Look for rips in the power cord and cover them up with electrical tape. This helps prevent injury or damage and keeps your vacuum in working order longer. Avoid yanking or pulling the cord to disconnect it from the wall. Grasp it by the plug instead.
